Truck Driver (CDL-A Required) | 1st Shift | Home Nightly

About the role

Operate a heavy-capacity commercial truck to transport freight between Steel Technologies’ locations, from suppliers, and to customers. Ensure timely and quality deliveries along with exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

• Operates a truck with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver steel products.
• Performs required daily vehicle inspections and monthly checklist to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
• Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
• Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
• Secures cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
• Inspects securement devices (chains, straps, tie-downs) for defects.
• Inspects material placed on truck for defects before and after trips.
• Maintains inspection paperwork and documentation relating to accidents or material defects.
• Follows a pre-determined schedule of pickup and delivery.

Requirements

• Ability to operate a clutch pedal.
• Ability to operate a tractor trailer for up to 10 consecutive hours.
• Knowledge of and ability to comply with all D.O.T and FMCSR requirements as well as applicable state laws.
• Class A CDL License and two years of driving experience; steel hauling preferred.
• Ability to climb on and off the semi-trailer as needed.
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
