Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain Class A vehicles in compliance with federal, state, and company regulations.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, checking brakes, tires, lights, and safety features, and promptly report issues.
- Safely load, unload, and secure cargo to prevent damage during transport.
- Plan efficient delivery routes, navigate traffic, and adhere to schedules using GPS or mapping tools.
- Maintain accurate logs of mileage, delivery receipts, fuel and toll expenses, and adhere to hours-of-service rules.
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks (e.g., fluid checks, refueling, cleaning) to ensure vehicle readiness.
- Communicate with dispatchers, management, and customers—report delays, incidents, or delivery issues.
- Provide professional assistance during deliveries and uphold a positive company image.
- Ensure correct paperwork, including bills of lading and proof-of-delivery, is completed and submitted.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience transporting goods in local or regional routes.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and vehicle inspection protocols.
- Competency with GPS navigation, record-keeping, and managing delivery documentation.
- Physical stamina to load/unload cargo and work extended hours if needed.
- Excellent time-management, organization, attention to detail, and safe driving habits.
- Strong communication skills and ability to deliver high-quality customer service.
Education and/or Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating Class A vehicles in local or regional routes.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations, vehicle inspection protocols, and safe cargo handling.
- Experience using GPS navigation systems and maintaining accurate delivery documentation.
Reasoning Abilities
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Physical Demands
- Regularly stand, walk, sit, and talk.
- Frequently use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to read and interpret documents.
