Responsibilities
- Diagnose and perform repairs on medium to heavy truck customer-owned machines, including all major manufacturer engines in trucks and other on-highway vehicles.
- Perform mechanic skills such as mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair, including preventative maintenance and general machine upkeep.
- Detect faults using diagnostic laptop computers, gauges, and instruments across machine systems: electronics, hydraulics, power train, engines, and general machine performance.
- Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized tooling.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Research repair needs and order parts as required.
- Load or unload equipment or components from customer-owned or common carrier vehicles.
- Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school education or GED equivalent required.
- Technical, vocational, or trade school education or equivalent is preferred.
- Two to five years of experience troubleshooting and repairing medium and heavy trucks with strong electronic and engine repair skills; Caterpillar experience is preferred.
- Experience diagnosing equipment using laptop computers, gauges, and instruments across electronics, hydraulics, power train, engines, and general machine performance.
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and install engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, clutches, etc.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking while maintaining high organization.
- Knowledge of basic tools and tool usage.
- Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Good work habits, above-average math, science, and English skills, and ability to read and interpret machine schematics.
- Self-motivation and a desire to perform at the highest level.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office desired.
- MSHA certified or ability to become MSHA certified.
- Ability to attain a CDL as required.
- 5+ years of experience is required.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to sit for long periods, stand, walk, bend, and stoop to perform essential job functions.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
