Troubleshooter Technician (Lineman)

EPB is seeking a Troubleshooter/Technician to maintain and repair electric and communications systems in the Chattanooga, Tennessee region.

About the role

The Troubleshooter/Technician identifies and performs preventative maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of electric and communications systems to resolve interruptions, service quality issues, or hazards. This role also assists in other operational phases across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Respond to and repair system-related issues efficiently.
• Restore electric and communication service to customers.
• Perform maintenance on electric and communication systems.
• Install, repair, and maintain EPB lighting systems.
• Connect electric and communication services.
• Perform field operations for system control.
• Follow all safety rules and procedures.
• Communicate actions accurately for record-keeping.
• Interact professionally with customers on behalf of EPB.
• Work independently and make sound decisions.
• Work shifts during inclement weather, holidays, overtime, outages, and emergencies as needed.
• Install, test, troubleshoot, and repair EPB communication systems, including fiber splicing, CAT5, coax, phone cables, set-top boxes, ONTs, and other devices.
• Work a minimum of 70% of call-ins or hold over overtime up to 16 consecutive hours.

Requirements

• Journeyman lineman with 5 years of experience.
• Practical knowledge of electronics, electricity, or related disciplines.
• Strong verbal communication, customer service, teamwork, and PC skills.
• Experience resolving equipment and circuit issues directly with customers.
• Valid CDL Class B (without mechanical restrictions) and DOT Health Card; must obtain CDL Class A within one year of employment.
• Complete a 90-day training program satisfactorily.
• Ability to use test equipment, computers, and interpret technical procedures and company practices.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, and interpreting bar graphs).
• Ability to perform pole-top and aerial device rescue techniques.
• Proficient in computer skills, including map reading, directional information, and minimal typing using a laptop in the field.
