What You Will Be Doing
- Ensure work completed during your watch complies with ACBL safety policies and practices.
- Navigate the vessel safely.
- Instruct all crew members on proper job execution and monitor their performance.
- Carry out duties under the Vessel Security Plan as the designated vessel security officer.
- Ensure crew members know the cargo details of each barge and understand associated hazards.
- Enforce all Company policies and vessel-specific guidelines within the SMS and Crew Endurance Management System.
- Complete required log entries.
- Maintain radio watch as needed.
- Report Certain Dangerous Cargoes (CDC) barges at specified points.
- Enforce all rules and give assignments to the mate and/or lead deckhand.
- Comply with all vessel management policies and procedures.
- Maintain the vessel budget and contribute to cost efficiency.
- Provide instructions and information to crew members, ACBL land-based personnel, USCG, or lock personnel.
What We Are Looking For
- A Master of Towing Vessels upon Western Rivers license required.
- Experience running on the Lower Mississippi River with 30+ loaded barges.
- USCG physical examination requirements met.
- Able to travel to and from vessel/training locations via air or car.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Able to work 6 hours on 6 hours off watch.
- Experience pushing 20+ barges preferred.
- Able to ride in or pilot a crew boat or zodiac.
- Able to work in all weather conditions.
- Valid USCG licensing maintained.
- Able to maintain an active TWIC.
