Tribal Victim Assistance Specialist

About the role

The Department of Justice and the United States Attorneys' Offices are dedicated to enforcing tribal, local, state, and federal laws. This position plays a crucial role in supporting tribal victim matters within the district.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating with Department personnel, tribal, federal, state, and local law enforcement, and victim service providers to ensure victims receive the services required by federal law and the Attorney General's Guidelines.
• Researching, reviewing, and disseminating information to Department personnel, federal, state, and local law enforcement, and victim service agencies regarding new programs and services for victims in Indian Country.
• Developing and providing training, information, and resources to Assistant United States Attorneys, support staff, and staff of federal investigative agencies, and state and local law enforcement and community services providers on tribal victim matters.
• Maintaining the regular and effective functioning of district-level programs to promote compliance with federal guidelines and overall litigative effectiveness.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship or Nationality
• Pre-employment adjudication including fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing
• Completion of Selective Service registration, if applicable
• One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or a combination of education and experience meeting the qualifications
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people
• Knowledge of victim's rights and advocacy in relation to tribal, state, and local law enforcement organizations
• Ability to handle stress and make sound decisions

Qualifications

• GS-11: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level performing duties related to victim's rights and advocacy in tribal, state, and local law enforcement organizations.
• Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law)
• Combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education totaling at least 100%
