About the role

The Trenchless Geotechnical Team Lead will report to the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead, contributing to the Trenchless Program by applying geologic information to engineering and design practices, leading geotechnical exploration campaigns, evaluating subsurface conditions, and recommending solutions to problematic geologic conditions. This role involves leading comprehensive geotechnical investigations, managing geotechnical data, and supporting other business groups.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize experience to apply geologic information to engineering and design practices.
  • Lead, coordinate, and execute geotechnical exploration campaigns.
  • Evaluate subsurface conditions for impacts to feasibility of design and construction.
  • Determine recommendations for solutions to problematic geologic conditions.
  • Interface with the broader team to integrate geotechnical data, concepts, and considerations into project deliverables.
  • Perform field work, including directing and overseeing subcontracted geotechnical drilling crews, conducting field soil and rock logging and testing, collecting geotechnical data, coordinating laboratory programs, analyzing data, and generating reports.
  • Create geotechnical data reports and geotechnical engineering reports.
  • Represent HDR’s Trenchless Services team in completing geotechnical investigations, site visits, and attending client meetings.
  • Manage and delegate responsibilities to other geologists or geotechnical professionals as necessary.
  • Assess subsurface conditions and lead efforts for incorporating pertinent geological and geotechnical data into critical determinations during design and construction.
  • Support geotechnical data management using OpenGround and/or gINT software.
  • Perform data management and quality control of geological data.
  • Advance capabilities in software programs such as gINT, OpenGround, ArcGIS Pro, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Support other business groups within the broader HDR organization.
  • Monitor and report on daily construction activities, interface with construction contractors, and communicate effectively with clients and team members off-site.
  • Travel as necessary, including longer term travel, to perform field work.
  • Lead and manage workload and delegate responsibilities to other geologists or geotechnical professionals.
  • Lead and manage a team of geotechnical-focused individuals.
  • Plan, resource forecast, cost estimate, schedule, and manage risk for all geological and geotechnical initiatives.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or other related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience.
  • Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the OpenGround software.
  • Proven history of ability to work and communicate successfully in remote work environments.
  • Experience leading and managing direct reports.
  • Experience managing subconsultants.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel, gINT Software Products, ArcGIS, AutoDesk.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Travel is required.
  • PE and/or PG credentials.
  • Knowledge and a good understanding of ASTM Standards for geotechnical concepts and subsurface material classification(s) based on various testing methods.

Pay

Expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. The targeted salary range for this position (based on experience and location) is $120,182 - $172,810.
