About the role

The Trenchless Geotechnical Team Lead will report to the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead, contributing to the Trenchless Program by applying geologic information to engineering and design practices, leading geotechnical exploration campaigns, evaluating subsurface conditions, and recommending solutions to problematic geologic conditions. This role involves leading comprehensive geotechnical investigations, managing geotechnical data, and supporting other business groups.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute comprehensive geotechnical investigations for various trenchless projects.
    • Direct and oversee subcontracted geotechnical drilling crews for exploratory campaigns.
    • Perform field soil and rock logging and testing.
    • Collect geotechnical data.
    • Coordinate laboratory programs.
    • Analyze data and generate reports.
  • Generate geotechnical data reports and engineering reports.
  • Represent HDR’s Trenchless Services team in geotechnical investigations, site visits, and client meetings.
  • Manage and utilize OpenGround and gINT software for data management and quality control.
  • Assess subsurface conditions and lead efforts to incorporate pertinent geological and geotechnical data into critical design and construction determinations.
  • Support geotechnical analyses and generate design reports.
  • Aid in advancing software proficiency for generating trenchless deliverables.
  • Support other business groups within HDR’s broader organization.
  • Monitor and report on daily construction activities while in the field.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members off-site.
  • Travel as necessary to perform field work.
  • Lead and manage workload and delegate responsibilities to other geologists or geotechnical professionals.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Good leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the OpenGround software.
  • Proven ability to work and communicate successfully in remote work environments.
  • Experience leading and managing direct reports.
  • Experience managing subconsultants.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ASTM Standards for geotechnical concepts and subsurface material classification(s) based on various testing methods.

Skills

  • Proficient in gINT Software Products.
  • Proficient in ArcGIS Pro and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Open to travel and extensive hours.
  • Outdoor work experience.

Pay

Expected compensation range: $120,182 - $172,810.
