Primary Duties/Responsibilities
- Carry out routine water testing and document test results.
- Monitor all charts, gauges, digital screens, and other operational equipment.
- Calculate chemical feed rates, calibrate feed equipment, and adjust rates based on lab tests or supervisor instructions.
- Perform and record routine and special installations, maintenance, and repairs of all equipment and grounds, maintaining good housekeeping procedures.
- Analyze system parameters and determine when additional assistance is needed (e.g., main breaks).
- Maintain appropriate chemical inventory levels.
- Operate water treatment plants, wells, and auxiliary equipment using SCADA control interfaces.
- Follow company water quality personnel’s guidance regarding water sampling, scheduling, handling, and similar matters.
- Carry out basic troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, pumping, and other equipment and facilities related to water production, treatment, and control.
- Use digital tools, computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and software to communicate and perform work.
- Occasionally take on various shift assignments and on-call duties on a regular, rotational basis.
- Comply with all safety, health, environmental, and security laws, rules, policies, programs, and training.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Previous experience in water production and/or water treatment operations is preferred.
- Ability to read, interpret, and communicate technical manuals, engineering plans, and other relevant documents.
- Basic knowledge of water system operations, construction, plumbing, disinfection, disinfection byproducts, and corrosion control.
- Ability to troubleshoot, install, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, pumping, and other equipment and facilities related to water production, treatment, and control.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Good organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with digital tools and software used for communication and work documentation.
- Knowledge of business office computing systems.
- Fine motor dexterity for tasks requiring precision, such as removing O-rings, taking samples, checking suction heads, checking compressors, manipulating tools, recording data, using keyboards, keypads, and phones for work orders.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training
- Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Must hold and maintain an Idaho Drinking Water Treatment Operator - Class II license.
Physical Requirements
- Transport up to 80 lbs., work outdoors in all weather conditions, enter confined spaces, and climb stairs/ladders.
- Perform maintenance/repairs with frequent standing, walking, lifting/carrying (up to 51 lbs.), pushing/pulling (up to 94 lbs.), crouching, kneeling, stooping/bending, twisting, and reaching (at trunk level and above shoulder level).
- Occasionally lie down or crawl to work at/below grade level.
Work Environment
- Indoors on concrete constantly and outdoors frequently, with outdoor conditions potentially wet, muddy, and slippery, and extreme temperatures.
- Occasional working at heights.
- Frequent driving for route reading and routine oil changes/maintenance.
Pay Rate
$40.75 per hour.
