Treasury Analyst - Finance Division
Carnegie Mellon University’s Finance Division provides financial management, enterprise planning, and stewardship in support of the university’s education, research, and strategic goals. As part of the Treasury Team, this role supports cash management operations, including review, analysis, and reconciliation of accounts receivable, cash management, banking fees, cash forecasting, and evaluation of cash management opportunities and banking solutions.
About the role
This position assists senior analysts and Treasury management with maintaining cash operations, debt and investment portfolio operations—ensuring compliance with covenants and reporting requirements, updating debt issuance simulations, analyzing and presenting debt proposals, coordinating bond compliance activities, and managing the internal loan portfolio. It also supports credit card compliance (PCI DSS) and other treasury functions.
Responsibilities
- Cash Forecasting and Liquidity Management: Apply critical analysis using various systems and external data to interpret findings, make recommendations, and facilitate decisions. Document and update cash and liquidity management processes. Build, maintain, and enhance forecasting models. Forecast cash flows based on current and historical data to anticipate liquidity needs. Analyze financial and institutional data for accuracy.
- Cash Acceptance: Manage university merchant accounts and credit card processing terminals while ensuring PCI compliance. Control, record, and report standardized banking activity. Review financial documents and bank account paperwork to guide colleagues on efficient transaction completion.
- Operations: Utilize spreadsheets, word processors, presentation tools, ERPs, and specialized financial technologies. Communicate findings clearly and actionably, helping colleagues understand their significance. Develop and monitor metrics to track performance and identify risks or opportunities. Guide process changes, handle difficult issues, and escalate as needed. Provide support to the Cash Operations Coordinator and other colleagues.
- Payments: Compile and submit escheat information for payroll and accounts payable. Acquire unclaimed property on behalf of the university. Calculate daily cash positions and fund cash obligations via bank wires. Pay and record debt service and swap-related costs, requiring significant distribution authority.
- Banking: Stay informed about trends, technology changes, and regulations impacting treasury. Manage the university’s bank account inventory, including opening/closing accounts and controlling access. Lead compliance-related tasks, including account documentation, KYC requests, and account signers.
- Financial Reporting: Develop and prepare journal entries, schedules, and reconciliations for debt, liquidity, internal bank, and stock contributions. Support fiscal year-end audits, regulatory surveys, and reports. Assist in valuing assets related to the university’s endowment, life income program, and other investments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least three years of related finance experience (a combination of education and relevant experience may be considered).
- Successful pre-employment background check.
