Town of Erving, Massachusetts seeks a collaborative and forward-thinking Treasurer to guide the financial stewardship of a rural Massachusetts community with a strong sense of identity, natural beauty, and evolving economic opportunities and challenges.
Responsibilities
- Manage the town’s financial affairs, including deposit, investment, and disbursement of all town funds to ensure liquidity.
- Oversee all borrowing, tracking, and repayment of notes and bonds.
- Maintain the Town’s bond rating.
- Manage tax title foreclosures.
- Administer payrolls for all employees, including benefits for active and retired employees.
Duties are defined in Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 32, 40, 41, 44, and 60.
Requirements
- Graduate of a four-year college with a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Three to five (3–5) years of related work experience.
- Certification as a Treasurer and Collector by the Massachusetts Collector/Treasurer Association preferred upon hire; must be completed and maintained within three years of hire.
- Must be bonded on the date of appointment as required by Massachusetts General Laws.
- Must pass a CORI check and be eligible for bonding under Massachusetts General Law.
Schedule
- Part-time (35 hours per week).
- In-person with some remote work capabilities, as approved by the Select Board.
- Expected to maintain office hours.
