Travelling EHS Manager

About the role

The EHS Manager leads the implementation and administration of the Forgen EHS Program, supporting selected projects across the company, including high-profile and/or high-demand projects where superior safety and health performance is critical. This role is fully engaged in Forgen’s Incident and Injury Free (IIF) Commitment Journey and conducts and coordinates project audits, develops project Health and Safety plans (HASPs), supervises and supports EHS Supervisors/Technicians, conducts training, and facilitates incident investigations.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and be accountable for direct reports.
• Drive a safety culture promoting Incident and Injury Free performance.
• Provide effective safety and health support to project teams to achieve Forgen objectives.
• Assist the Regional EHS Manager with developing and administering programs and policies that advance Forgen’s IIF commitment and safety compliance.
• Identify safety training opportunities and program gaps; develop plans to meet needs in accordance with federal, state, and local agencies.
• Create and implement effective safety and health policies to strengthen existing policies and address gaps.
• Deliver training, mentoring, and coaching to project teams and the EHS team on required and proactive subjects.
• Work closely with project Operations teams to develop practices supporting safety and health initiatives.
• Engage proactively with project managers and supervisors to help them understand and follow safety practices.
• Evaluate field operations, including emergency response procedures, for safety and health improvements and risk control effectiveness.
• Provide statistical data and safety and health performance narratives to leadership.
• Help create, improve, and comply with project Health and Safety Plans (HASP).
• Ensure Forgen Safety and Health requirements are widely and consistently understood and implemented.
• Apply hazard identification and risk assessment processes at project sites; ensure implementation of appropriate control measures to reduce risks to ALARP.
• Participate in the development and review of Activity Hazard Analysis (AHAs).
• Ensure all safety observations, inspections, training data, project-specific information, and incident reports are entered in EHS Insights.
• Promote safety and health awareness through new hire orientation, safety training, and participation in IIF campaigns.
• Conduct effective investigations of incidents and near misses; develop final reports and follow up on corrective actions.
• Participate fully and openly in compliance assurance audits, inspections, and project meetings.
• Serve as a liaison between Forgen and client representatives.
• Perform and document inspections (e.g., fire extinguisher, portable ladder, body harness).
• Review project schedules weekly and communicate safety and health concerns to the direct line of reporting.
• Perform air sampling, monitoring, data logging, calibrating instruments, and basic industrial hygiene tasks.
• Follow up on certification, training, and medical screening expiration dates for project employees; schedule and advise in advance.
• Identify Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needs, order and issue PPE, and maintain adequate supplies.
• Identify third-party training needs and notify the project team and direct line of reporting.
• Develop safety and health-related training packages; ensure project personnel are trained as per the Training Matrix.
• Ensure Project Health and Safety Plan (HASP) aligns with client requirements.
• Evaluate and set up Occupational Clinics at respective project locations.
• Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in safety, engineering, construction, or a related discipline.
• BCSP designation (e.g., CSP, CHST, STS).
• A minimum of five years of experience managing safety programs in civil, environmental, or general construction companies or similar high-end safety program backgrounds (e.g., oil refining, mining).
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive on behalf of company business.

• 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training
• Competent Person Safety Training
• 8-Hour Supervisory Training
• OSHA 500 Certification
• First Aid and CPR
• MSHA-related courses

The company will provide additional training as necessary.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required. Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
