Responsibilities

  • Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction based on starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase, using knowledge of tools, equipment, and building methods.
  • Interacts with the Project Manager to determine the project schedule; develops and utilizes "look ahead" schedules to assess progress and identify upcoming issues.
  • Coordinates the pre-construction meeting with the Project Manager prior to mobilization.
  • Directs procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
  • Ensures all parties involved with the project are informed of construction issues and progress:
    • Meets with and directs supervisory personnel engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
    • Meets regularly with craft personnel to update them on construction issues and gather input for solutions.
    • Meets with subcontractors prior to mobilization to review scope of work and schedule; advises subs prior to each phase of work on schedule and phasing requirements.
    • Meets regularly with clients to update them on the project's progress.
  • Works with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within the project workforce.
  • Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and/or inspectors and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure conformance to specifications and construction schedules.
  • Manages the project based on progress reports, materials used, and costs; adjusts work schedules accordingly.
  • Works with the Manager of Craft Resources to move personnel between projects, minimizing hiring and layoffs; responsible for crew mixes and work assignments to manage labor costs; may terminate company craft personnel not performing according to policies or job requirements.
  • Works in conjunction with the project manager in preparing the Project Management Plan.
  • Ensures company policies, such as safety, equal opportunity, and others, are implemented consistently.
  • Ensures company quality standards and housekeeping requirements are maintained.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position requires full-time travel to the project location, which operates nationally. The listed location does not reflect the project site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in ground-up commercial projects, particularly in the light industrial and/or cold storage sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction processes.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to and from the project site.
  • Understands and applies building codes and other design requirements correctly; reads blueprints accurately.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of subcontractors' scopes of work and tolerances.
