About the role
The Senior Superintendent will plan, manage, and execute all aspects of significantly complex or multiple projects. This position is responsible for managing the team, planning construction sequencing, and meeting project goals to achieve timely and profitable completion. This role will travel to assigned Advanced Industries projects nationwide.
Responsibilities
- Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture, demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through actions and mentoring. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
- Provides management of subcontractors and organization of overall job workflow.
- Manages company staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEO for small projects or major portions of larger projects.
- Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
- Coordinates and manages care, custody, and control of the project site.
- Leads daily standup and weekly trade meetings.
- Attends, manages, and participates in progress and/or project OAC meetings.
- Creates, manages, changes, and implements the project’s schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Tracks and monitors project budget and costs using project management system reports.
- Communicates key project information to owners, design teams, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and other departments.
- Follows project filing and documentation systems, updating drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks.
- Approves and records unit cost information for weekly reports; completes daily reports, logs, and tracking reports.
- Evaluates progress on self-perform work and adjusts as needed.
- Manages material and equipment needs for the project.
- Supports MOC (Material and Other Costs) and DLSC (Dunn Logistics Service Center) procurement and approval processes.
- Assists in selecting formwork, tools, and equipment for self-perform operations.
- Manages timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and proper cost codes.
- Ensures quality compliance through specifications, setting standards, and QA/QC processes.
- Supports project closeouts by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with owners, architects, and authorities.
- Understands the project pursuit process and methodology.
- Participates in project pre-planning with field operations leadership and adjusts plans throughout the project lifecycle.
- Partners with field leadership to establish field staffing for assigned projects.
- Partners with project management to identify schedule and cost impacts of project changes.
- Participates in negotiations with owners and architects to agree on project changes.
- Prepares and presents materials for project review meetings, including monthly reviews.
- Participates in project buyout meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
- Applies terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts.
- Identifies and recruits top talent.
- Leads and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn.
- Manages complex stand-alone or multiple projects from planning to completion.
- Oversees projects with multiple superintendents.
- Influences and manages delivery results through others.
- Executes key strategic initiatives to support company strategy.
- Provides training and education to support company and regional initiatives.
- Engages in business, industry, and community activities to build external relationships.
- Leads the project pursuit process with the project team.
- Collaborates with the marketing team on presentations and activities.
- Develops new business opportunities by cultivating client relationships.
- Assumes responsibility for management, scheduling, production, safety, and quality on projects.
- Identifies, understands, and actively manages project risks.
- Recommends solutions for problems based on experience and knowledge.
- Manages deliverables from internal resources such as IPS and logistics.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
- 10+ years of construction experience.
- 8+ years of field supervision experience.
- Experience leading Lean principles on projects preferred.

Working Environment
- Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- May require periods of travel and/or relocation.
- May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
- Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
- Frequent activities: Standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.
- Occasional activities: Sitting, viewing computer screen.
