Traveling Mechanical Superintendent

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise field installation of heavy mechanical systems and equipment on industrial construction sites.
  • Direct rigging, setting, alignment, and anchoring of machinery such as compressors, pumps, conveyors, and robotic systems.
  • Manage and schedule labor including millwrights, welders, pipefitters, and rigging crews.
  • Cookordinate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to meet deadlines and maintain installation standards.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, submittals, and manufacturer installation guides.
  • Enforce jobsite safety policies and lead toolbox talks and safety audits.
  • Resolve field issues related to alignment, clearance, and system integration.
  • Track productivity, maintain daily logs, and prepare look-ahead schedules.
  • Participate in system start-ups, commissioning, and turnover procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years of mechanical construction experience, with 3+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven experience with rigging, machinery alignment, and industrial system installation.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, mechanical safety standards, and hazard mitigation practices.
  • Experience working in high-volume environments such as manufacturing plants, utilities, or refineries.
  • Familiarity with field software like Procore, Bluebeam, or MS Project.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or apprenticeship preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification required (or ability to obtain).
  • NCCCO rigging or crane certification is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively for long-term assignments.
  • Being bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
