Responsibilities
- Following all safety procedures, JSA Job Safety Analysis, wearing required personal protective equipment, reporting any unsafe conditions or hazards immediately to their supervisor, taking proper training seriously, knowing and following job-related health and safety requirements, and not putting themselves or others at risk by working unsafely.
- Comply with the guidelines set forth by the FRA on Personal Blue Signal Protection of Workers.
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures.
- Work with others to perform maintenance and repairs.
- Operate equipment according to company policies, procedures, and practices.
- Ensure locomotives are safe and compliant with regulations.
- Perform regular maintenance on locomotives, including QMI inspections.
- Understand diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulics, and be able to read and interpret technical manuals.
- Diagnose issues accurately and efficiently.
- Diagnose and repair locomotive mechanical, electrical, air brake issues, and replace faulty components.
- Understand and read schematics, use multi-meter AC/DC.
- Perform other duties as assigned, assist other departments.
Job Requirements
- Must be safety-minded and have basic reading and math skills.
- Must have the ability to develop teamwork and work with all levels of personnel in achieving train-handling objectives.
- Must be able to give and receive instructions over radio.
Physical Requirements
- Able to perform physical strenuous work
- Requires constant standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and balancing in a safe manner
- Requires frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80lbs
- Able to push and pull with up to 150lbs of force
- Performs duties in primarily outside environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles, and equipment. Frequent exposure to weather elements.
- Must be able to successfully pass background, drug test, and physical capacity test.
