Traveling Journeyman Electrician - Cedar Rapids

About the role

Works under the guidance of a Foreman or Superintendent and may oversee the direct work of a small crew of Helpers, Apprentices, or other Journeyman Electricians. Performs installation, alteration, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment. Offers opportunities to learn and grow in other divisions of Amteck, such as low voltage, controls, process work, and fire alarm, along with other skill sets within the electrical trade.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently to measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, threaders, and hand or mechanical benders
  • Install and terminate electrical devices, fixtures, panel boards, branch circuit, and feeder conductors
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of circuiting
  • Read and understand project specifications, blueprints, and schematics
  • Lay out small areas of work from electrical drawings and project documents, including underground layout
  • Correctly determine wire, conduit, and junction box sizing
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of lighting and general power circuits
  • Lead and mentor Helpers and Apprentices on the job site

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience performing electrical construction in commercial and/or industrial environments
  • Equipped with all tools required by company policy and able to use them to perform assigned tasks
  • Demonstrate the Amteck Way in daily work activities, behavior, and decision making
  • Able to work project schedules including weekends and overtime
  • Interest and aptitude to learn job-related material through oral instruction and observation, typically in an on-the-job setting
  • Team-player mentality: listen and understand directions, work cooperatively with others, and work safely without threat to self or others
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, basic mathematical ability, and the ability to learn to read basic construction documents used daily
  • Willingness to participate in field training, whether OJT, classroom-based, or completely virtual

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions; ability to talk and hear
  • Compliance with Amteck’s dress code and personal appearance policies
  • Visual acuity to perceive or comprehend by sight, including focus, color perception, or depth perception; ability to see small objects and small print on dials and drawings
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and remain sitting for long periods of time
  • Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms, including lifting arm(s) above shoulder level to install equipment
  • Ability to manipulate materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs, frequently and at long distances (30+ feet) as needed
  • Ability to climb ladders (step stool, 8' to 10' ladder, extension ladder), stairways (3 or more flights), and work at heights over 30 feet
  • Frequent stretching, extending, or putting forth bodily parts to touch or grasp objects, up to 50 times daily
  • Bend forward or down from the waist or back 20-50 times daily
  • Perform skilled work in cramped areas, overhead, at heights, and in a variety of weather conditions
