Position Overview
We are seeking a Building Automation Installation Technician to join our Controls team. This role involves installing and supporting building automation systems across various projects, requiring travel and hands-on fieldwork.
What You'll Do
- Install BAS components including controllers, sensors, actuators, relays, panels, and communication wiring based on project drawings
- Perform wiring terminations, continuity checks, and basic system verification
- Assist with system startup and commissioning alongside engineers and programmers
- Label and organize wiring and components for ease of maintenance and future service
- Ensure all installations comply with NEC requirements, local regulations, and company standards
- Support layout and mounting of panels, enclosures, and field devices
- Cook up with other trades (HVAC, electrical, mechanical) to ensure proper integration
- Track materials used, labor hours, and any field changes
- Follow all safety protocols, including PPE and jobsite guidelines
- Participate in ongoing training to build technical expertise and advance within the company
Required Qualifications
- 1-5 years of experience in BAS installation, controls, HVAC, or electrical work
- Knowledge of low-voltage wiring and ability to follow wiring diagrams
- Familiarity with communication protocols like BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or IP networks
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and control sequences
- Exposure to various BAS platforms is a plus
- Basic understanding of controls systems and architecture
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background and drug screening
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred Experience
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience bending conduit and assembling control panels
- Knowledge of structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber)
- Familiarity with platforms such as Distech, Honeywell, JCI, or Niagara
- Ability to assist with startup or perform basic programming tasks under supervision
