Clean Harbors’ National Remediation team is seeking Traveling Heavy Equipment Operators across the United States.

About the role

The Heavy Equipment Operator operates a variety of equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, loaders, screeners, excavators, and other machinery. This position requires 95-100% travel within the 48 contiguous states, with all travel expenses covered. The typical travel rotation is 6 weeks on a project (without returning home on weekends) followed by 1 week off. Flying is required to reach project locations unless the job is local.

Pay

$26–32 per hour, depending on experience. Per diem is available while traveling, and individual accommodations (single-occupancy room with kitchenette) are provided. Prevailing wage and overtime opportunities vary by job site. Year-round consistent work with scheduled time off every 6 weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment including excavators (60K LB and up), front-end loaders (3CY and up), articulating dump trucks (25CY and up), bulldozers (150HP and up), motor graders, soil compactors, articulating water trucks, compact loaders, and compact excavators.
  • Operate machinery such as backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, bulldozers, track-hoes, and compactors.
  • Operate a heavy-duty forklift as required.
  • Ensure equipment is never operated unsafely or inconsistently with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Complete and submit all associated paperwork for waste tracking.
  • Perform occasional manual labor tasks.
  • Prioritize Health and Safety by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Experience operating bulldozers and excavators.
  • Previous construction (Earthworks) experience preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to travel 95–100% on a 6-weeks-on, 1-week-off schedule (paid).
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically demanding role requiring navigation of steep slopes, rugged terrain, and walking several miles per day.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and wear personal protective equipment that may restrict movement.
  • Requires extended periods of walking, standing, sitting in vibrating or jostling equipment, climbing, working at heights, pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping, crouching, and balancing.
  • Must have strong speaking, listening, and writing skills in English, along with color determination, depth perception, and 20/20 eyesight (corrected or uncorrected).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and personal appearance; facial hair must comply with the company’s respiratory protection policy.
