Traveling General Superintendent (Foundations)
About the role
The General Superintendent oversees all Foundation efforts to ensure that projects are completed in accordance with safety, design, budget, and schedule. Works as a liaison with other departments, employees, contractors, and outside agencies.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day field operations, including scheduling and coordinating labor resources, determining material quantities and delivery, staying current on communication among subcontractors, the owner, the site engineer, and others, and ensuring timecards, logs, estimates, and required reports are completed on time.
- Oversee crew mobilization and moves.
- Act as a liaison between clients, project managers, and superintendents.
- Participate in activities necessary to close each job appropriately.
- Provide guidance to crews on maintaining a safe working environment for all employees by enforcing company safety guidelines, OSHA guidelines, and other applicable safety standards.
- Provides timely and accurate documentation for reporting safety issues in accordance with Veit policies and procedures.
- Ensure all work meets specified quality standards. Inspect fieldwork for quality compliance, inspect materials for quality compliance, and review the assembly of the manufacturer’s literature and drawings before work starts.
- Control costs through efficiently utilizing manpower, equipment, materials, and other resources to minimize costs. Use HCSS Heavy Job Software to determine the most cost-effective production standards.
- Maintain knowledge of local, county, and state rules and regulations related to projects and inform crews on how to comply.
- Produces and communicates the Workforce Schedule for projects to keep division crews active and balanced. Tracks project budgets and works to complete projects within the assigned budgets.
- Manages field personnel in a fair and equitable manner. Addresses performance issues as they arise. Regularly completes daily reports to document associate performance. Oversee team dynamics to maximize productivity, quality, and safety. Supports and participates in training.
- Ensures all crews are properly trained in safety, skills, and supervisory skills where applicable.
- Participates in meetings to discuss project start-up and future plans. Prepares for and participates in regular job-site meetings throughout the project. Assures that Veit’s Leadership is informed of all matters of relative importance.
- Stays up to date on construction means, methods, and procedures.
- Other projects or duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Superintendent overseeing construction work, specifically with Foundations.
- HAZWOPER, OSHA 10-HOUR, OSHA 30-HOUR, Excavating Safety Training, Confined Space, Blueprint Reading, CPR, First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, iPad, and iPhone.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, reports, construction plans, construction specifications, and legal documents.
- Ability to communicate and schedule project needs appropriately.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with employees, clients, and other business associates.
- Must clearly communicate directions and information.
- Must possess the ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community.
- Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to speak effectively before groups as well as individuals.
- Must possess the ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical field quantity situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must possess the ability to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the HCSS Software Suite is preferred but not required.
- Supervisory Responsibility: Manages Foundation Project Superintendents/Foremen.
- Leads safety initiatives across service groups.
- Provides leadership and supervision to field personnel fairly and equitably, adhering to company policies and procedures and complying with local and federal laws.
- Oversee, mentor, and develop staff by providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high levels of efficiency and effectiveness.
- Hires, trains, develops, and reviews all direct reports, taking disciplinary action when necessary and in a timely manner, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
