About the role
Aquila Corporation is a fast-growing engineering and construction firm specializing in next-generation telecom and fiber-optic infrastructure. Founded in 2019, we started with 5G small cell network site acquisition and permitting, expanded into full A&E design services, and by 2022, we were designing complete fiber-optic networks for Internet Service Providers. Today, with approximately 100 employees, we are an integrated design-build partner for telecom providers across the U.S., combining engineering precision with startup agility.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair various types of fiber optic cables and equipment.
- Perform fiber optic splicing and termination.
- Conduct testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems.
- Ensure acceptable testing and turn-over of splicing on time.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Continuous focus on safety.
- Responsible for upkeep and maintaining company vehicle, inventory, and small tools.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.
Requirements
- Mechanical knowledge for handling fiber optic cables and equipment.
- Two to three years of experience working as a Fiber Splicing Technician.
- Familiarity with fiber optic splicing and termination techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with various splicing machines, OTDR’s, power meters and other associated equipment required.
- Knowledge of cable size, gauge, count, and colors of direction.
- Skilled in fiber optic splicing.
- Proficient with fusion splice machine and fiber testing equipment.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work with little supervision.
- Willingness to learn.
- Ability to maintain equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to abide all company and manufacturer safety procedures and industry safety standards, in addition to attending mandatory safety meetings.
Physical and Environmental Factors
- Ability to work outdoors and in all types of outdoor weather.
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry, and lift as needed.
- Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movement.
- Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods of time.
