Traveling Construction Manager II (Industrial Construction)

Construction Managers at Dennis Group are project site supervisors overseeing daily construction operations, including subcontractor coordination, site safety programs, project schedules, and budgets. Our projects focus on designing and building food and beverage process facilities (industrial/MEP projects), requiring coordination with multiple engineering groups, designers, and architects. The role demands strong communication skills, technical proficiency, and the ability to interact with all levels of personnel.

Responsibilities

• Daily supervision of construction activities, including coordination of subcontractors and site safety programs
• Oversight of field engineers or Jr Construction Managers when assigned
• Autonomous management of medium-sized projects
• Collaboration with project management to develop and update project scope, budget, and schedule
• Project accounting, budgeting, and cost management
• Establishing and maintaining site safety procedures with the safety team
• Overseeing process, mechanical, and utility equipment installations
• Permitting, code and regulatory administration, and approval
• Change order and general construction administration
• Field engineering coordination and inspection management
• Managing third-party testing, inspections, and relationships
• Researching construction management best practices
• Client-facing collaboration with owners, subcontractors, building officials, and the A/E team
• Preparing and administering third-party agreements
• Conducting jobsite walks/audits to ensure project progression and schedule compliance
• Procuring project services and equipment (rentals, PPE, etc.)
• Supporting and coordinating facility start-up
• Preparing and maintaining project reports and logs
• Ensuring subcontractor schedule compliance and exploring alternative resources
• Reviewing and maintaining submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Working with Project Controllers and Project Managers on supplier invoices and client billing
• Performing engineering calculations
• Preparing permit applications
• Assisting in preparing work plans, work packages, and interpreting drawings/specifications for field crews
• Managing project punch-list inspections
• Promoting continuous communication among project participants, including internal and external clients
• Coordinating project close-out activities
• Fulfilling safety responsibilities in various capacities
• Supporting talent growth within the organization, including coaching/mentoring when directed
• Other tasks as assigned

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in construction science, building science, construction engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred
• 4+ years of design-build experience over industrial projects (strongly preferred)
• 4+ years of overseeing subcontractors and driving project schedules
• 4+ years of client interaction experience with strong technical, organizational, managerial, and communication skills
• 4+ years of progressively responsible job site experience on industrial building projects
• Fundamental understanding of all phases of construction, including reading and interpreting construction documents, schedules, and budgets
• Proficiency with AutoCAD is a plus
• Up to 100% travel to projects throughout the USA and possible Canada
• Work schedule: 10 days onsite, 4 days off

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking around project sites with uneven surfaces
• Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsites in all types of weather, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
• Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
• On-call availability to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times

Travel

Projects are located throughout the United States and Canada. This is a site-based position with a 10 days on / 4 days off work schedule. Projects typically last from 6 to 12+ months. Meal and lodging per diems are provided along with reasonable travel provisions. Up to 100% overnight travel is required based on project needs.
