About the Role
This position is within the Women's Services unit at Tristar Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, TN. The unit includes Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) with 9 beds, OB Emergency Department (OBED) with 1 bed, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 4 beds, and 1 operating room suite.
- Patient ratios: 1:1 for active labors, inductions, C-sections, and couplet care; 1:3 for stable newborns; 1:3 for NICU intermediate care (with a minimum of 2 NICU nurses required in the unit).
- No unit secretaries or techs available on this unit.
- Equipment used: CPN Central monitoring, IV pumps, infant warmers, tele-med robot for neonatologist, bili-blankets, PCA pumps.
- Documentation systems: Meditech and CPN.
- Full-time scheduling requires 3 shifts per week, including rotating weekends and holidays. PRN staff may be used to complete scheduling needs.
- Floating policy: Regular staff may be required to float within the facility if not needed on the unit. Some staff are cross-trained to float between LDRP and NICU.
- Daily patient rounding and safety rounding are required.
Responsibilities
- Labor and delivery care, including laboring and recovering mothers, receiving and transitioning newborns, and performing newborn assessments.
- Managing OB emergencies such as shoulder dystocia and postpartum hemorrhage.
- Performing inductions using Pitocin and Cervidil.
- Assisting with procedures including C-sections, circumcisions, intra-uterine monitoring, and vacuum or forceps-assisted deliveries.
Requirements
- Labor and delivery experience.
- Fetal monitoring education and experience.
- Certifications: BLS, NRP, and Fetal Monitoring training.
- Adherence to unit dress code: pink and/or brown scrubs as per infant security policy.
