About the role

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. The professional evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans, while also explaining treatment purposes, procedures, and equipment to patients, providing essential education upon discharge.

Location: Akron, Ohio. Employment type: Travel contract. Schedule: Night shift, three 12‑hour shifts per week (36 hours total).

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician‑prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non‑invasive.
• Administer various oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer treatments to deliver medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Conduct suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
• Perform oximetry and capnography monitoring according to established policies.
• Review patient chest x‑rays and interpret findings to determine further evaluation needs.
• Carry out pulmonary function studies and assist with related procedures (e.g., bronchoscopy, chest tube placement).
• Manage tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency.
• Maintain respiratory therapy records, documenting treatments and patient responses accurately.
• Engage in communication with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Assist in equipment maintenance and repair as needed.
• Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation in compliance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.

Requirements

• Must possess a valid Respiratory Therapist license and adhere to state regulations governing practice.
