About the role

Travel position in Valdez, Alaska. Assignment starts as soon as possible, lasting 13 weeks with a 40-hour work week. Shift is 9 hours per day, 5 days a week.

Employment type: Travel. First-time travelers accepted. Locals not accepted—candidate’s permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility. If candidates have worked as permanent staff for any Providence facility, they must be separated for at least 3 months prior to working as a traveler. Pending license accepted.

Guaranteed 72 hours per 2 weeks; traveler may be called off for one 8-hour shift per 2 weeks. Time off requests are approved on an individual basis upon offer.

Responsibilities

• Provide rehabilitation therapy for a largely outpatient pediatric population
• Serve hospital (inpatient and swing bed), long-term care (LTC), and outpatient settings
• Transition between inpatient, outpatient, and LTC as needed
• Perform functional activities, standardized assessments, developmental testing/treatment
• Address acute and chronic disorders, including mental retardation
• Conduct feeding techniques (oral/motor), disability sequence tests, and other specialized assessments
• Adhere to national patient safety goals and core measures
• Complete non-billable modules (average 16 hours, pre-start and annually; self-reported)
• Work 2 out of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year
• Float within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience as a Rehabilitation Therapist
• BLS certification required
• Experience with acute care, outpatient, LTC/SNF, and pediatrics preferred
• Skills in standardized assessments, developmental testing, and functional activities
• Ability to work with pediatric and inpatient populations
• Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance (personal policy must cover rental car insurance)
• Pending license accepted; valid state license required to start
• Two professional references covering at least 1 year (6 months for CNAs) within the last 3 years
• No on-call requirement
• Open to accommodating a block schedule

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Epic charting system
• Manual therapy, hand therapy, and specialized pediatric skills (e.g., autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spinal cord injury)
• Prosthetics (above/below knee, upper extremity), adaptive equipment assessment, wheelchair evaluation
• Feeding techniques, sensory integrative testing, neurodevelopmental treatment
• Billing, infection prevention, fall/risk assessment, and patient/family education
• Prior experience in children’s hospitals, pediatric outpatient, or rehabilitation facilities

Housing & Vehicle Information

• Facility-provided housing: 1-bedroom apartment available for move-in no earlier than 72 hours before contract begins and no later than 24 hours after contract ends
• Pets are not allowed; housing typically accommodates only the traveler (additional family members require approval)
• Traveler must clean the unit upon departure or face additional cleaning fees
• Facility-provided shared-use vehicle for local travel (no off-road use or trips beyond a 30-mile radius from the facility)
• Vehicle available no earlier than 72 hours before contract begins and no later than 24 hours after contract ends
• Only the traveler is authorized to operate the vehicle; must provide a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
• Vehicle must be returned cleaned and with a full tank of gas; tire chains available at traveler’s expense
• Vehicle must be turned in during time off and reissued upon return
• Accepting facility-provided housing or vehicle disqualifies traveler from housing/vehicle stipends
