About the role

Travel nurse RN Rehabilitation position for a 13-week assignment in Wausau, Wisconsin. Start date: 09/14/2026. 48 hours per week, 12-hour night shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to patients with neurological, orthopedic, or other rehabilitation needs, including stroke recovery, spinal cord injuries, joint replacements, or brain injuries
  • Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other members of the rehab team to develop and implement personalized care plans that support patient recovery goals
  • Regularly assess patients' physical and mental condition, monitor vital signs, neurological function, and progress in therapy; adjust care plans as necessary based on patient response
  • Administer medications as prescribed, monitor for side effects, and ensure proper dosage and timely delivery; assist with pain management strategies to promote patient comfort during rehabilitation
  • Educate patients and families about recovery goals, rehabilitation techniques, safety precautions, and strategies to promote independence in daily activities
  • Respond to medical emergencies, including sudden changes in condition, respiratory distress, or cardiac issues, and act quickly to stabilize patients when needed
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting assessments, treatments, and progress toward rehabilitation goals in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Assist with discharge planning, ensuring patients and families are prepared for post-discharge care, including home modifications, continued therapies, and follow-up appointments
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, case managers, and social workers, to provide comprehensive care tailored to each patient's needs

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience as an RN in a rehabilitation setting
  • Current BLS certification required; additional certifications may be required before beginning assignment
  • Must be eligible for state licensure
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods; must be able to bend, stoop, and lift with proper body mechanics
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage complex care needs
  • Compassionate, patient, and skilled in promoting recovery and independence for patients recovering from serious injuries or illnesses
