Job Details
- Assist in performance of complex radiology examinations involving special techniques and/or equipment.
- Take routine radiographs for medical and surgical diagnosis and treatment.
- Document all information on patient's images, consents, and medical records.
- Corroborate patient's clinical history with procedure and verify informed consent.
- Apply principles of patient safety during radiology procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
- Assist licensed independent practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiography procedures.
- Perform non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed.
- Prepare specially equipped rooms for scheduled examinations, including surgical procedures; practice sterile techniques.
- Lead patients to dressing rooms and give directions before examination.
- Move patients from gurney/wheelchair to examination table.
- Apply ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure.
- Provide proper protection to patients according to safety standards; shield and position patients as required.
- Position patients on X-ray table and immobilization devices; assist with fluoroscopic unit; maintain procedure records.
- Select proper technical factors on equipment; set radiographic technique and exposure timing.
- Select and use proper immobilization and supportive devices; select proper film, machine position, and exposure procedures.
- Perform procedures requiring fluoroscopy; prepare and administer chemical mixtures for examinations.
- Review images for proper identification and quality; process radiographs as required.
- Maintain clean and orderly equipment and work area.
- Use portable radiology equipment.
- Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid to patients in the department.
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill in care of patients ranging from newborn to geriatric, depending on area of practice or department assignments.
Job Requirements
- Two (2) years of experience required.
- Must possess and maintain current certification as a Radiologic Technologist and Certified Fluoroscopy permit from the State of California Department of Health Services.
- Must possess and maintain current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Must possess and maintain current American Heart Association Responder or Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire and maintain RQI Responder certification and competency.
- Knowledge of modern radiology equipment and techniques, human anatomy and physiology, occupational and safety precautions for radiologic work, and acute care hospital procedures.
- Ability to administer emergency first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Maintain records and files; follow instructions; deal tactfully and professionally with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical Center.
- Graduation from an accredited two-year program in Radiologic Technology approved by the Joint Commission on Education is required.
Schedule Information
- Variated shifts: 8 hour shifts for Days and Evenings.
- Occasional graveyard shift may be required.
- 40 hours per week.
Additional Details
- Experience in trauma, portables, fluoroscopy, and surgery is required.
