About the Role

A CT Technologist (CT Tech) operates computed tomography (CT) scanners to perform diagnostic imaging procedures for patients. The CT Tech is responsible for obtaining high-quality images of a patient’s body, which are used by physicians to diagnose conditions such as injuries, infections, cancers, and other abnormalities. The CT Tech ensures patient comfort and safety, prepares the imaging equipment, and assists the healthcare team in obtaining diagnostic information.

Responsibilities

• Patient Preparation and Communication: Prepare patients for CT scans by explaining the procedure, answering questions, and ensuring comfort. Verify patient information, including medical history, allergies, and prior imaging. Position patients properly on the CT table and instruct them on breath-holding or stillness during scans.
• Operation of CT Equipment: Operate and calibrate the CT scanner, adjusting settings such as radiation dose, slice thickness, and imaging protocols. Administer contrast agents or dye injections (under physician or radiologist guidance) to enhance image clarity. Monitor equipment during imaging to ensure high-quality results.
• Image Quality and Review: Review CT images for quality and diagnostic standards. Collaborate with radiologists to ensure images meet requirements and adjust or repeat scans as needed.
• Patient Safety and Comfort: Follow safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure, including using the lowest effective dose and shielding. Maintain a sterile environment and ensure proper patient positioning to prevent injury or discomfort. Monitor patients for adverse reactions to contrast agents.
• Collaboration and Communication: Work with physicians, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to determine appropriate imaging procedures. Document patient information, scan parameters, and complications in the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in patient care planning for complex cases.
• Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Maintain, clean, and troubleshoot CT scanners and associated equipment. Perform routine inspections, calibration, and log equipment use, maintenance, and repairs.
• Radiation Safety and Compliance: Adhere to radiation safety protocols, including shielding and dosage guidelines. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, safety standards, and Joint Commission guidelines. Stay updated on regulatory changes.
• Documentation and Record Keeping: Accurately document imaging procedures, patient information, and adverse events. Ensure compliance with hospital policies and medical record-keeping regulations. Assist with maintaining patient flow for timely imaging results.
• Patient Education and Support: Educate patients on aftercare, potential side effects, and follow-up procedures. Address concerns about radiation exposure or claustrophobia. Maintain patient privacy and dignity throughout the process.
• Professional Development and Training: Participate in continuing education to stay current with CT imaging advancements, protocols, and safety procedures. Attend training sessions and maintain professional certification and licensure.

Pay

Pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
