About the role
Bluebird Staffing is seeking a travel nurse RN for an Operating Room position in State College, Pennsylvania. This is a 13-week travel assignment starting on 08/31/2026, with a schedule of 36 hours per week, 8-hour day shifts.
Responsibilities
- Assess and respond to the individual physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient through personal observation and interaction; act as a patient advocate.
- Utilize professional nursing skills and judgment to implement nursing care and treat identified problems.
- Communicate patient assessments to appropriate individuals to ensure coordination of patient care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, and EKG; demonstrate skills in IV therapy.
- Transcribe and implement physicians' orders accurately and timely while admitting patients to the surgical center efficiently.
- Document patient clinical records via computer with accuracy and in a timely manner; ensure all required information is complete for correct surgical procedures.
- Complete final review of patient records to ensure all paperwork, site marking, and anesthesiologist consultations are complete.
- Provide appropriate and knowledgeable instruction/education to patients and their families.
- Decrement supplies according to policy; utilize supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care.
- Assist with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and making beds as needed for patients.
- When assigned to PACU, use knowledge and critical thinking to assess and provide appropriate nursing care, including maintaining airway, monitoring vital signs, and managing pain.
- Evaluate patient status using discharge criteria to safely transition patients to Phase 2.
- Familiarize with the transfer process and procedure to send patients to the medical center.
- When functioning as a float nurse, maintain communication between all areas, assist staff as needed, relieve staff for breaks, and utilize staff cost-effectively.
- Work as assigned in pain management and eye laser procedure rooms.
- Familiarize with anesthesia supplies; assist with nerve blocks; know the location of crash cart, MH cart, and emergency medications.
- Participate in committee meetings, offer suggestions for improvements, and seek guidance when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay
Pay package is based on 8-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
