About the Role
AMN Healthcare Nursing is seeking a travel nurse RN Outpatient Oncology for a travel nursing job in Kalispell, Montana.
Responsibilities
- Provide care on a surgical floor that also manages oncology patients (travelers will not have to give chemo unless specifically stated in submission).
- Manage patients with conditions including CHF, Sepsis, COPD, CVA, DVT, PE, Cellulitis, AKI, ETOH, Psych, IVDA, and Hospice.
- Care for post-surgical patients including Ortho, Neuro, Urology, GYN, ENT, and GI surgeries (Hemicoloctomy, Exploratory lap, GIB), Spinal surgeries (ECDF, Fusions, Lami), and GU (TURP, Cysto).
- Perform epidural/PCA/medication management, drain/ostomy management, chest tube care, wound care/wound vacs, general post-surgical recovery, and post-op ortho care.
- Manage PICC lines.
- Work with CNAs (ratio 1:8) and may have primary patient care for 1-2 patients in your ratio; ratios may be lower if there is not a CNA.
- Participate in shift huddle on each unit before every shift.
- Perform hourly rounding and maintain white boards in all rooms.
Requirements
- ONS/CHEMO Certification – Required for Unit "Surgical 2nd – Oncology".
- Registered Nurse license.
- Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year with strong MS experience.
- BLS certification required.
- NIHSS certification required.
- First-time travelers accepted with strong experience.
- Soft Skills: Flexible, teamwork, hardworking, dedicated.
Unit Details
- Facility: Logan Health Medical Center, Kalispell, MT (Level III Trauma Center, 145 Beds).
- Unit: Surgical 2nd Floor – 18 beds, Med/Surg Combo with Surgical and Oncology Patients; also works with Med/Surg Ortho (Ortho/Surgical and Hospice), Brendan House (LTAC/Nursing Home), Behavioral Health (acute inpatient mental health and substance abuse), Med/Surg General/Covid, and ED Holding (same patient ratios).
- Shift: 12-hour days, 0700-1930; every other weekend rotation.
- Schedule: Attempt to put travelers on pattern schedule but may vary; holidays: 1-2 over winter (Eve is holiday for night shift, day shift is the day of the holiday).
- Time-Off: Able to approve 5 days; if more, email MS leadership.
- On-Call: Optional.
- Overtime: May be available, not required.
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue.

- IV Pump: Baxter.
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis.
- Orientation: 1 day of general orientation (includes Meditech training) + 12-hour shift orienting to different units; orientation provided for Brendan House and Behavioral Health units as needed.
- Staff: Unit Manager may have patients; Unit Secretary (Day shift 07:00-19:30); Centralized Tele monitor with tele tech 24/7; Hospitalist and RT 24/7.

Pay
- Pay Rate: $2357.00 – $2478.00 per week.
- Pay package based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
Schedule
- Duration: 13 weeks.
- 36 hours per week.
- Shift: 12 hours, days (0700-1930).
- Every other weekend rotation.
- Holidays: 1-2 over winter (Eve is holiday for night shift; day shift is the day of the holiday).
