About the role
OR RN position at a Level I Trauma Center with 33 OR suites. The department uses EPIC OP-Time, and scrubs are provided. Required certification: BLS only.
- 23 OR suites on 5 North and 10 on 2 West, handling both inpatient and outpatient cases (majority outpatient on 2 West)
- Average 80–120 cases per day
- 24/7 polytrauma response with Charge Nurse available around the clock
- OR Techs are utilized; RNs are not required to scrub
Cases & Service Lines
- Orthopedics: Major ortho, joints, spine, sports medicine, trauma
- Neuro: Craniotomies and spine
- Robotics (Xi): Surgical oncology, urology, GYN
- Bariatrics
- ENT: Head & neck free flaps/reconstruction and basic ENT
- Ophthalmology: Retina, cataracts, oculoplastics
- Adult Heart Team and Kidney Transplant (separate closed teams)
- Pediatric Heart Team (separate team)
Requirements
- Must be able to circulate independently
- Must be willing to take call
- Strong ambulatory/outpatient experience is a plus, particularly for 2 West
- Travelers are not placed in Charge Nurse/House Supervisor roles
Schedule
- Shifts:
- 2 x 12-hour shifts + 2 x 8-hour shifts per week
- Day shifts:
- 12-hour: 6:30 AM–7:00 PM
- 8-hour: 6:30 AM–3:00 PM
- Afternoon shifts:
- 12-hour: 9:00 AM–9:30 PM or 10:30 AM–11:00 PM
- 8-hour starts: 9:00 AM, 10:30 AM, or 2:30 PM
- Call & Weekends:
- Travelers are expected to take weeknight call
- 20–30 hours of standby call per 4-week period
- 30-minute call response time
- Travelers are expected to work some weekends
- Weekend shifts are 12-hour blocks: 6:30 AM–7:00 PM or 10:30 AM–11:00 PM
- The OR Manager aims to schedule at least 1–2 travelers on weekends
- Remaining scheduled hours will be during the week
- Holiday call is open for discussion
- Floating: Limited to 5 North and 2 West, based on experience
Orientation
Orientation is provided for both 5 North and 2 West and typically consists of 2–3 shifts, including one shift focused on EPIC.
