Travel OR RN - $2,279 per week

About the role

TotalMed is seeking an Operating Room RN for a travel nursing opportunity in Columbus, Ohio. This 13-week assignment involves 40 hours per week on 8-hour rotating shifts. The role requires providing care for surgical patients, assisting physicians and medical staff, and offering pre- and post-surgery education. Depending on experience, responsibilities may include circulating, scrub, or RN first assistant duties.

Requirements

• 1-2 years recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse
• BLS certification
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lean, and stoop for long periods
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds easily, and up to 50 pounds when moving or lifting patients
• Comfort with potential exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases in the OR environment
• Additional certifications may be required before beginning assignment

Responsibilities

• Provide basic bedside care
• Prepare, administer, and record prescribed medication; report adverse reactions
• Serve as communication liaison between patients' families and the operating team
• Ensure correct procedure is performed on the correct patient
• Initiate patient education plan as prescribed; teach patients and families about medication and home care

Circulating OR Nurses additionally:

• Respond to comfort and safety needs of patients
• Ensure accurate care and handling of specimens
• Monitor equipment used during surgery
• Conduct inventory of surgical items pre- and post-procedure

Scrub OR Nurses additionally:

• Select and handle surgical instruments and supplies during procedures
• Conduct inventory of surgical items pre- and post-procedure

RN First Assistants additionally:

• Assist physicians by delivering direct surgical care
• Help control bleeding
• Suture patients following surgery
