Travel OR RN - $2,042 per week

About the role

TotalMed is seeking an Operating Room RN for a travel nursing opportunity in Abingdon, VA. The ideal candidate should have 1-2 years recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or potentially RN first assistant. In this role, you will assist physicians and medical staff in caring for surgical patients, as well as providing pre- and post-surgery care and education to the patient.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic bedside care
• Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment
• Serve as the communication liaison between patients' family members and members of the operating team
• Ensure that the correct procedure(s) is being performed on the correct patient
• Initiate patient education plan as prescribed by physician; teach patients and families how to manage medication and home care needs
• Circulating OR Nurses: Respond to comfort and safety needs of patients; ensure accurate care and handling of specimens; monitor equipment used during surgery; inventory surgical items pre- and post-procedure
• Scrub OR Nurses: Select and handle surgical instruments and supplies during procedures; inventory surgical items pre- and post-procedure
• RN First Assistant: Assist physicians by delivering direct surgical care; help control bleeding; suture patients following surgery
• Stand and walk for long periods of time; bend, lean and stoop without difficulty
• Lift up to 20 pounds easily; move or lift patients up to 50 pounds at times
• Work in an environment with potential exposure to certain chemicals or infectious diseases

Requirements

• ACLS certification
• BLS certification
• 2 years of recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or RN first assistant
• Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment

Pay & Schedule

13-week duration, 40 hours per week, 8-hour day shifts. Pay package based on 8-hour shifts and 40.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
