About the Role
TotalMed is seeking an Operating Room RN for a travel nursing opening in Camden, SC. This 13-week assignment requires 40 hours per week on 10-hour day shifts. The ideal candidate should have 1-2 years of recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or potentially RN first assistant.
Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and medical staff in caring for surgical patients
- Provide pre- and post-surgery care and education to patients
- Provide basic bedside care
- Prepare, administer, and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment
- Serve as the communication liaison between patients' family members and members of the operating team
- Ensure that the correct procedure is being performed on the correct patient
- Initiate patient education plan as prescribed by physician; teach patients and families how to manage medication and home care needs
Circulating OR Nurse Duties
- Respond to comfort and safety needs of patient
- Ensure accurate care and handling of specimens
- Monitor equipment used during surgery
- Perform inventory of surgical items pre- and post-procedure
Scrub OR Nurse Duties
- Select and handle surgical instruments and supplies during procedures
- Perform inventory of surgical items pre- and post-procedure
RN First Assistant Duties
- Assist physicians by delivering direct surgical care
- Help control bleeding
- Suture patients following surgery
Requirements
- 1-2 years recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or RN first assistant
- ACLS, BLS, PALS certifications
- 4 years of experience
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as bend, lean, and stoop without difficulty
- Ability to easily lift 20 pounds; moving or lifting patients may require lifting up to 50 pounds at times
- Ability to work in an environment with potential exposure to certain chemicals or infectious diseases
- Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment
