About the role
TotalMed Allied is seeking a travel Occupational Therapist Assistant for a travel job in Emporia, Virginia.
Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT) to help patients of all ages develop, improve, or recover the skills needed for daily living and working.
- Assist in implementing treatment plans tailored to each patient's goals and functional abilities.
- Deliver therapeutic activities and interventions as directed by the supervising OT.
- Monitor patient progress and report observations to the OT to support treatment plan adjustments.
- Document patient performance and progress accurately and in a timely manner per facility and state guidelines.
- Assist patients with exercises, mobility training, and use of adaptive equipment.
- Educate patients and families on techniques to improve independence in daily activities.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas and equipment.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support coordinated care.
- Comply with state licensing rules and adhere to facility and professional standards.
Requirements
- 1 year of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
- Current BLS certification.
- COTA National certification (NBCOT).
- State-specific licensure required.
- Ability to lift and assist patients safely.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Solid understanding of anatomy, motor function, and occupational therapy principles.
- Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment.
Schedule
- Duration: 13 weeks
- 35 hours per week
- 8-hour day shifts
