Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care in a 32-bed Med/Tele unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 (occasional 5-6 on nights) and PCU-level care overflow at 1:3
  • Care for adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses including cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID/BiPAP, general surgical with heart history, medical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, COVID, acute-on-chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis
  • Titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine (no Levo)
  • Read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Collaborate with charge nurses (who occasionally take a light load of 2-3 patients) and nurse aids/patient care techs (goal ratio 1:10)
  • Troubleshoot RT equipment such as BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo
  • Float to other units as "helping hands," including PCU (full patient load), MS (full patient assignment), and ER holds/boarding

Requirements

  • Active RN license
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
  • PCU experience and ability to read telemetry strips
  • Tele/cardiac RN experience preferred; first-time travelers considered
  • Epic experience preferred
  • Must not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI/Dignity)
  • Radius rule: 50 miles from facility
  • Ready-to-work (RTO) status of 7 or fewer days required upfront

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Rotating shifts no more than weekly; manager creates schedule and may consider blocked schedules based on unit needs
  • Weekend requirements: every other weekend
  • Holiday requirements: every other holiday
  • Orientation: 2 days (Friday and Saturday of first week), then independent by Sunday
