About the Role
Travel contract position for an Intermediate Care / Progressive Care Unit (IMC/PCU/Stepdown) nurse at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital in Rapid City, SD. This 13-week assignment targets a start date of 11/16/2026 with day shifts (3x12 hours, 07:00 – 19:00).
Responsibilities
- Provide care for patients recovering from cardiac procedures (CABG, TAVR, post-cardiac cath)
- Administer and monitor MI pharmacology and titratable cardiac/vasoactive gtts (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levo, Dopamine)
- Manage heparin gtts and interpret cardiac rhythms
- Oversee chest tube management
- Work in a 44-bed mixed acuity unit (Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and Med-Surg) with typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4 (can be 1:3 depending on acuity)
Unit details include an unassigned charge nurse and 24/7 respiratory therapy support. Epic EMR is used for charting.
Requirements
- Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience, including 1 year specific to PCU
- First-time travelers accepted only with 2+ years of experience
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license recognized by the South Dakota Board of Nursing
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Must live at least 100 miles away from any Monument Health facility (Radius Rule)

Schedule
- 13-week contract with potential extension
- 36 hours per week, 12-hour day shifts (07:00 – 19:00)
- Up to 7 days of requested time off (RTO) allowed; must extend contract if taking a full week off
- No time off permitted during the first 3 weeks of August annually (Sturgis Bike Rally)
