About the Role

Travel nursing position for an RN in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) located in Richmond, Virginia. This assignment is for 13 weeks with a commitment of 36 hours per week. Shifts are 12 hours, available during days or nights.

Unit Details

  • Number of Beds: 25
  • Day Shift Staff: 1 Charge RN, 6 RNs, 1 Unit Secretary, 2-3 Techs
  • Night Shift Staff: 1 Charge RN, 6 RNs, 1 Tech
  • Patient Ratios: 4:1
  • Equipment: EKG Machine, Hoyer Lift, LifePak
  • EMR: Meditech

Responsibilities

  • Handle a fast-paced unit with multiple admissions, discharges, transfers, and procedures
  • Set priorities and modify patient care in response to changing conditions using problem-solving skills and good judgment
  • Make timely notifications to physicians regarding changes in patient condition

Procedures Performed on Unit

  • Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
  • EKGs
  • Most cardiac procedures are performed in the Cath Lab, not on the unit

Requirements

  • Telemetry experience and ability to read EKGs (mandatory)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (mandatory)

  • Sets priorities and modifies patient care in response to changing conditions by utilizing problem-solving skills and exhibiting good judgment
  • Makes appropriate and timely notification to physicians on patient condition changes

Floating & Schedule Details

  • Low probability of floating to Med Surg
  • Weekends and On-Call: Every 3rd Friday and Saturday (7p-7a) plus one additional Friday or Saturday (7p-7a) each schedule
  • Required to work Halloween, the Friday after Thanksgiving, and Christmas night
