Job Summary

A registered nurse specializing in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a facility located in Louisville, Kentucky. This role involves managing a high-acuity unit with patients primarily diagnosed with neurological conditions, stroke, and neuro-related diagnoses. Candidates are required to bring their nursing license on the first day.

Job Details

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM; clock-in time is 6:53 AM; minimum of 36 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid nursing license;
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS);
  • Basic Life Support (BLS);
  • 2 years of relevant experience required, 3 years preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with neuro assessments, phlebotomy, EKG rhythm analysis, NG/Dobhoff placement by nurses, and port access.

Additional Information

  • Managing 2-3 discharges per day with an average stay of 6-10 days.
  • Staffing includes RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6 acuity-based; 2 CNAs per shift; 1 clerical staff during daytime.
  • Responsible for lab collections depending on staffing; vascular access team available.
  • Departmental support includes shift coordinator during the day, remote telemetry monitoring, and 24/7 coverage by hospitalists, specialists, and intensivists.
  • Technology and equipment used include Cerner electronic medical record system, Plum ICU Medical IV pumps, Phillips monitors, and unit-specific equipment such as sera steady, Arjo lifts, kangaroo pump, and sapphire pump for PCA.
  • Orientation consists of a 24-hour (3-day) program, including a 12-hour shift at the end of week one and another at the start of week two.
  • Unit culture is high acuity with new leadership and a focus on comprehensive stroke care.
  • Scrub color: Galaxy blue.
  • Parking available onsite with badge access.
  • All scheduled days including holidays are directed by the facility manager with no on-call expectations.
