About the Role
A Stepdown Registered Nurse provides care to patients transitioning from intensive care to medical-surgical or general inpatient units. These patients require frequent monitoring and specialized nursing interventions, including cardiac care, medication administration, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and telemetry data to detect abnormalities and respond appropriately
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, with a focus on cardiac care
- Prepare equipment and assist physicians during cardiac-related procedures and examinations
- Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs of telemetry patients
- Observe patient conditions, record significant reactions, and notify supervisors or physicians of cardiac status and response to interventions
- Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols specific to cardiac emergencies
- Document nursing history and physical assessments for assigned telemetry patients
- Initiate patient education plans tailored to individualized needs, focusing on cardiac health, risk factors, and lifestyle modifications
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for telemetry patients
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Requirements
- One year of recent experience as a Stepdown RN
- Current valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
- Current ACLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) Certification
- NIHSS Certification

Schedule
- Duration: 13 weeks
- 36 hours per week
- 12-hour shifts, nights
