Job Description & Requirements

Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a 12-week assignment in Lafayette, Indiana. The position requires one year of recent Stepdown RN experience, current RN license, BLS and ACLS certifications, and PCCN certification preferred.

  • Monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and telemetry data.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Maintains awareness of patient comfort and safety needs.
  • Notifies supervisor or physician of patient cardiac status and response to interventions.
  • Documents nursing history and physical assessments.
  • Initiates patient education plans.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • One year of recent experience as a Stepdown RN.
  • Current Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations.
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC).
  • Current ACLS Certification (AHA/ARC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) Certification.
  • NIHSS Certification.

Summary

A Stepdown Registered Nurse provides care to patients transitioning from intensive care to medical-surgical or general inpatient units. These patients require frequent monitoring and specialized nursing interventions. The role involves assessing and managing complex patient needs, administering medications and treatments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, patient-centered care.

Essential Work Functions

  • Makes critical decisions and communicates effectively.
  • Maintains awareness of patient comfort and safety needs.
  • Communicates with supervisor or physician regarding patient cardiac status and response to interventions.
  • Documents nursing history and physical assessments.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Essential Skills

  • Strong critical thinking, service excellence, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
  • The ability to read and comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills.
  • The ability to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend.
  • The ability to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism.
  • The ability to perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality of patients and clients.
  • The ability to adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards.
