About the role
Medical Surgical Orthopedic Floor Registered Nurse (RN) in Omaha, Nebraska. This role involves providing patient care in a busy acute care setting focused on orthopedic and medical surgical patients. Candidates will manage a variety of conditions including joint replacements, fractures, and other common diagnoses, while ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to department policies.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a medical-surgical orthopedic unit
- Manage patients with joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, orthopedic trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
- Titrate drips such as Heparin, Lidocaine, and Ketamine
- Operate PCA pumps
- Read tele monitor strips
- Perform hourly rounding
- Ensure responsiveness to patient needs
- Float to other medical surgical areas with MedSurg patients awaiting beds as required
Requirements
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar medical-surgical or orthopedic setting
- Valid driver’s license
- Active nursing licensure
- Ability to work 12-hour day shifts starting 08/31/2026, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
- Compliance with unit-specific orientation (2 days)
- Wear navy blue scrubs
- Request RTO upfront; no additional RTO approved after submission
Work Environment
- Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 on the orthopedic/medical surgical unit
- Charge nurse on each shift who may also take patient assignments
- Nurse aides/patient care techs with ratios of 1:10-20
- Tele techs interpret monitoring strips; nurses maintain tele awareness
- Mechanical lifts available in select rooms
- EPIC charting system
- Unit emphasizes teamwork, attendance, compassion, and cultural sensitivity
- Serves patients of diverse backgrounds including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese
