About the Role

As an Operating Room Registered Nurse, you will provide comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative process, ensuring safety and comfort during surgical procedures. This dynamic role involves preparing the operating room, managing surgical equipment, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room by ensuring all required instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are ready and functional for each surgical procedure.
  • Assist in positioning and preparing patients for surgery, addressing concerns and ensuring comfort and safety according to procedural requirements.
  • Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures and adhere to infection control protocols and sterile technique.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, providing instruments, supplies, and support promptly to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Monitor the patient's condition during surgery, document significant changes, and notify the surgeon as needed.
  • Handle surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring proper use, sterilization, and disposal according to facility protocols.
  • Manage specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to facility protocols to ensure accurate diagnostic results.
  • Document all aspects of patient care in the perioperative setting accurately and thoroughly.
  • Participate in patient handoff communication during pre- and post-operative phases to ensure continuity of care.
  • Assist in cleaning and restocking the operating room between cases, adhering to infection control and turnover protocols.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Follow hospital safety rules and procedures, including proper use of PPE and infection prevention measures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.

Requirements

  • One year of recent experience as an Operating Room RN.
  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations.
  • Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS (AHA/ARC), PALS (AHA/ARC), or ENPC certifications.
  • OR Nursing Certification (CNOR).
  • Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position.

Skills

  • Critical Thinking & Communication: Strong critical thinking, service excellence, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills.
  • Physical Abilities: Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100 lbs), push, pull, and bend.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) while maintaining a positive attitude and professionalism.
  • Technical/Motor Skills: Ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.
  • Mental Requirements: Ability to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must work under close supervision occasionally, as well as without assistance from other personnel. Must contend with irregular activity schedules and maintain continuous concentration on detail.
  • Sensory: Must possess visual acuity and the ability to communicate effectively.

Schedule

  • Duration: 13 weeks.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Shift: 8 hours, days.
