About the role

The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to adult oncology patients in an inpatient Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit, with a focus on leukemia and lymphoma. The RN performs patient assessments, develops individualized care plans, administers treatments including chemotherapy (as certified), monitors telemetry, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, and provides patient-centered care throughout hospitalization.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for oncology and Med-Surg Telemetry patients.
  • Care for adult patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and other hematologic/oncologic diagnoses.
  • Monitor cardiac telemetry and recognize changes requiring immediate intervention.
  • Administer chemotherapy safely in accordance with ONS guidelines and institutional policies (Chemo Certified).
  • Perform IV insertion, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central line care.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and supportive oncology treatments.
  • Monitor patients for chemotherapy reactions, infection, neutropenia, tumor lysis syndrome, and other oncology-related complications.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing reassessments.
  • Develop and update individualized care plans based on patient condition and physician orders.
  • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic documentation.
  • Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and changes in patient condition.
  • Float to other appropriate units based on staffing needs.
  • Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital quality standards.
  • Promote evidence-based nursing practice and patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of acute inpatient adult oncology nursing experience.
  • Experience caring for Leukemia and Lymphoma patients.
  • Experience in an Oncology/Medical-Surgical Telemetry setting.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Active New Jersey RN License or Multistate Compact RN License
  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS
  • Chemotherapy Certification (ONS or equivalent)
  • Telemetry Certification preferred
  • ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Certification preferred

Schedule

  • 3 x 12-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
  • Days, nights
  • Weekends: Required as needed
  • Holidays: Required as needed
  • On-Call: None
  • Floating: Required
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours/Week
