Wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation and escalations5 South Neuroscience Beds: 33 Patient Types: CVA, TBI, Seizure, AMS, Spinal Fusion, Craniotomy, Degenerative Diseases, post trauma, angiogram, post ICU Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 Skills required: IV start, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, Colostomy/Ostomy, Wound Care, Chest tube, Surgical Site Care, C-Collar, Abdominal Binders, Restraints 5 North MedSurg/Oncology Beds: 39 (very busy unit) Patient Types: All patient types except stroke and MI, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, behavioral patients. MS/Oncology patients 1:6 for RN and LPNs Skills required: Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, behavioral issues, codes, IV starts; Chemo administration, if certified Tele monitoring on hallway monitors and by tele techs on ground floor 4 South Clinical Decision Unit Beds: 18 Patient Types: General patient population hospitalized for various causes, such as illness, surgery, testing, or observation COPD, CHF, Diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, COVID, Pneumonia, Renal Failure, Sepsis, UTI, End of Life Comfort Patient Ratios: 1:6 Skills required: Assessment, prioritization, communication & documentation skills. Tracheotomy care, Suctioning, O2 Therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, External catheter care, PEG/NGT care and use, wound care, chest tube, central line care, pressure ulcer management/preventive measures, falls prevention management, restraints3 South Orthopedics Beds: 20 Patient Types: Ortho & spine: Joint replacements, fractures, fusions, laminectomies, etc. Patient Ratios: 1:5; 1:6 if medsurg Skills required: PCA pumps, wound care (negative pressure dressing), dressing changes, foley, drains (hemovacs/JP drains) 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology Beds: 23 Patient Types: Urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg Patient Ratios: Team Nursing 1:8 (1 RN: 1 LPN: 8 patients); 1:6 Skills Required: Trach, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, follow nurse-driven foley protocol. No required to read/measure tele strips.Patient Ratios: 1:5-6.Technology/Equipment: EMR: CERNER, Medication dispensing: Omnicell, IV pumps: Plum 360, Monitors: SpacelabsOrientation: Travelers who are new to the facility or return travelers who have been gone for 1+ years will have 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit.
