Facility: WVU Garrett Regional Medical Center • Location: Oakland, MD 21550

Shift Details: 12-Hour Shifts (06:45 – 19:15 / Nights: Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Requirements & Expectations

• Strong Med/Surg background required due to a wide variety of patients
• No first-time travelers accepted
• BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required for all RNs and LPNs (ACLS and PALS recommended but not required)
• All submittals must include an unexpired copy of the candidate's driver's license
• EPIC experience required (MediTech training coordinated by the education department)

Responsibilities

• Care for patients with conditions including chest pain, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, ortho, detox, post-op surgeries, and pediatric patients
• Unit does not accept laboring moms or patients requiring titrating cardiac drips or insulin drips
• Manage CPAP/BiPAP (respiratory therapy support) and high-flow oxygen
• Document telemetry strips faxed from ICU monitors
• Float to assist other units as a tasker or extra set of hands

Unit Details

• 32-bed Med/Surg Unit (currently operating at 20 beds due to staffing)
• Accepts both RNs and LPNs
• No more than 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio; supported by 3 CNAs per shift
• Every other weekend required (night shifts fall on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
• Block scheduling available if requested and approved by the manager
• Holidays rotate with regular staff
• 3 to 5 days of orientation including unit training, manager review, hospital policies, and system training
