Job Summary

The Medical Surgical Floor (MS) role supports care across multiple medical-surgical units, including oncology, observation, and cardiac post-procedure populations, based on patient needs throughout the facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Medical Surgical Floor (MS) experience (minimum 2 years med-surg experience)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • EPIC experience
  • Ability to perform chest tube care and stable trach management
  • IV skills
  • Ability to care for port/central lines
  • Knowledge of CPAP, BiPAP, and Airvo (RT will manage equipment)
  • Foley insertion and care
  • Catheter feeding tube care
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Medication/titration experience with Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, and argatroean (manager approval required if drip experience is not present)

Preferred Qualifications

  • First-time traveler experience is noted as acceptable for this assignment

Additional Information

  • Float pool responsibilities may include assignment to MS patients anywhere in the facility, including ER holding/boarding; oncology care may include patients receiving chemotherapy, with no requirement to provide chemotherapy; some pediatric patients may be present on the unit floor (pediatric experience is not required, and pediatric patients will not be assigned)
  • Patient ratios are reported as 1:46 on days and 1:6 on nights
  • Support includes unit charge nurse assignment, unit secretary support (days only), CNA support for vitals and blood glucose with no IV insertion/removal, phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws, respiratory therapy coverage 24/7, and hospitalist coverage 24/7 via secure chat on EPIC
  • Charting system includes EPIC and standard support for hard-stick patients includes escalation to available resources
  • Saturday rotation occurs every other weekend, and scheduling is planned 46 weeks at a time with advance notice

Pay Package

The pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
