The RN provides direct patient care within their scope of practice and supports the care and education of mothers and newborns throughout the antepartum and postpartum periods.Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to labor and delivery patients. Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Monitor maternal and fetal conditions and respond appropriately to changes in patient status. Provide care to mothers and newborns during the antepartum and postpartum periods. Perform and interpret fetal heart monitoring within scope of practice. Provide patient and family education. Direct and guide nursing personnel and support staff as appropriate. Maintain a safe environment for patients, newborns, families, and visitors. Communicate effectively with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Utilize the chain of command when necessary to ensure patient safety and appropriate care. Maintain accurate documentation and follow applicable nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
