Travel Nurse RN - ICU - Intensive Care Unit - $2,107 per week

About the role

TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU for a 13‑week assignment in Salem, Virginia. The position requires 36 hours per week on 12‑hour night shifts. The ideal candidate will have 1‑2 years of recent acute care experience and be ready to provide direct care to critically ill patients in an Intensive Care Unit setting.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and monitor patients in the ICU.
• Provide direct care to patients in life‑threatening situations, documenting and delivering physician‑directed care.
• Assess and implement patient care plans, delegating to other care providers as appropriate.
• Provide education and support to patient families, including long‑term care needs.
• Provide basic bedside care.
• Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication; report any adverse reactions.
• Order and evaluate diagnostic tests.
• Take samples for lab work, order corresponding lab work and interpret reports.
• Monitor and adjust specialized equipment; interpret and record electronic displays.
• Ensure proper placement and functioning of catheters, leads and tubing.
• Communicate patients’ conditions to family members.
• Stand and walk for long periods; bend, lean and stoop without difficulty.
• Lift up to 20 pounds routinely; may need to lift up to 50 pounds when moving patients.
• Manage exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases and handle confused, agitated or uncooperative patients.

Requirements

• Active RN license.
• ACLS certification.
• BLS certification.
• 1‑2 years recent acute care experience (ICU preferred).
• Ability to meet physical demands (lifting, standing, etc.).
• Additional certifications may be required before assignment.
