About the role
TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Chicago, Illinois.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and monitor patients in an Intensive Care Unit setting.
- Provide direct care to patients in life‑threatening situations, documenting and providing physician‑directed care.
- Assess and implement patient care plans and delegate to other care providers as appropriate.
- Provide education and support to patient families, possibly for long‑term care needs.
- Provide basic bedside care.
- Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment.
- Order and evaluate diagnostic tests.
- Take samples for lab work, order and interpret reports.
- Monitor and adjust specialized equipment, and interpret and record electronic displays.
- Ensure proper placement and functioning of catheters, leads and tubing.
- Communicate patients' conditions to family members.
Requirements
- 1‑2 years recent acute care experience.
- ACLS certification.
- BLS certification.
- NIH certification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience (as indicated by “5 Years”).
- Additional certifications may be required before beginning an assignment.
Skills
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Ability to bend, lean and stoop without difficulty.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds routinely; may need to lift up to 50 pounds when moving patients.
- Tolerance for exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases.
- Capability to work with confused, agitated, or uncooperative patients.

Pay
Pay package is based on 12‑hour shifts and 36.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation
